There have been Music Festivals, which have changed the course of Music, affecting the whole of mankind. Some of the most famous music festivals of all time are the Bonnaroo Music Festival, Woodstock Music & Art Fair and the Monterey Pop Festival. These festivals have made a dent in the universe changing the way we perceive music. Some of these festivals have been a one-time affair while others continue year after year contributing to the Music scenario of the world.
The Bonnaroo Music Festival started way back in 2002 inspired by the music festivals of 1990s and has continued each year to bring together music lovers of all genre like the jazz, hip hop, bluegrass, indie rock, country music, electronica and many others. It’s held in a farm of 700 acres in Manchester, Tennessee, USA. People come down from all across the world to enjoy the various live music concerts being held in this 4 days celebration. Some of the popular bands that have been associated with this music festival are the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bob Dylan, Radiohead, Stevie Wonder, Pearl Jam and James Brown.
The Woodstock Music & Art fair was held in the year 1969 and was one of those concerts, which changed the history of Rock and Roll. A massive crowd of 500000-foot falls came together to watch 32 acts being performed in a stretch of 3 days. Bill Hanley designed special speakers and other musical instruments for the festival. The festival aimed at promoting peace and music and is till date considered as one of the most successful events in the music history.
The Monterey Pop Music Festival dates back to 1967 and happens to be the first rock music festival that was promoted so heavily and had so many attendees. It was held at the Monterey County Fairgrounds in Monterey, California. It is believed to be one of those points that inspired the moment of “Summer of Love”. People became conscious of everything that was happening around them and questioned thoughts on environment and politics. The Monterey Festival had performers like Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Ravi Shankar, The Jimi Hendrix Experience and The Mamas & the Papas. This festival went on to inspire many more music festivals later.
These were some of the most prominent music festivals that brought about a revolution in the world of music and inspired many others in the future. These festivals are still considered among the best things that ever happened to the music industry since its inception.
