Dubstep is a very popular form of EDM today. Its origin can be traced back to the 1990s when it started showing presence in South London with the advent of the Jamaican Sound System. It is an element, which is present in almost all the remixes created today. A lot of pop artists and EDM creators have been using it for quite some time now. With the rising popularity of Dubstep it has been accepted as a new genre all together although my Microsoft Word draws a red zigzag line underneath every time I type in the word ‘Dubstep’ (holding up the sarcasm sign board).
Some of the best Dubstep music artists are Skream & Benga, Digital Mystikz, Bassnector, Rusko, Flux Pavilion, Seven Lions and obviously the list will hold no meaning without the mention of Skrillex. Skrillex is believed to have invented Dubstep which is far from true but that does not stop him from being the God of Dubstep. Digital Mystikz was producing Dubstep long before it became popular and have been a foundation of what Dubstep is today. Skream & Benga were the game changers for Dubstep, the added all the spice and hot chili that Dubstep required to make it what it is today.
Indian first say Dubstep on its doorstep (cheesy lines) in 2007 when DJ Jon Jaggi aka Jon Jay played it at the Baarish Festival 2007 held at the Delhi’s Garden of Five Senses. People went crazy listening to the beats and the tune for first time ever live in India. From then on there was no look back, Dubstep entered the Indian music clubs, Bollywood music, shows and concerts and even the stalls of Chai walas on the streets. Dubstep went so huge in India that music festivals like NH7 and Sunburn dedicated a whole separate stage its lovers. There is a popular meme going around the internet nowadays which reads like something like this, “Aliens: We sent signals to the Humans, they started calling it Dubstep and started dancing to it”
